Brian May Guitars Brian May Signature Electric Guitar, Honey Sunburst
The Brian May Signature Electric Guitar features an acoustically chambered mahogany body, a dual truss rod mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard. The pickups are Tri-Sonics that Brian sealed in Araldite adhesive to prevent microphonic feedback inherent with metal covered pickups. These are controlled by the original Brian May switching system with individual on/off and phase switches, one volume and one tone pot.The Brian May guitar is faithful to the spirit of Brian's original 'Red Special', an instrument that has achieved iconic status and a unique place in rock history, and designed by Brian May himself. In fact, it delivers everything you'd expect from an instrument built to the exacting standards of one of the world's greatest guitarists but, in keeping with Brian's vision of a "guitar for the people", with an amazingly affordable price-tag that belies its' superior appointments and performance. Without question one of the most eagerly anticipated instruments of the century. The original BMG replica was originally launched in winter 2001 to rapturous critical and public acclaim. UK Guitarist magazine hailed it as "Best Guitar of The Year" and theater audiences around the globe thrilled to the guitar's sound in performance in the Queen musical "We Will Rock You." But the story certainly didn't end there. Brian, his long-standing guitar, technician Pete Malandrone and House Music have significantly improved upon the guitar's overall construction as well as refining the bridge assembly, electronics, finishing and color choices. Simply put, one of the finest artist-designed production guitars is now even better.

DigiTech Artist Series- Brian May Pedal Reviews

When I heard that Digitech was producing a Brian May pedal I was EXTREMELY happy. Brian May, along Steve Hackett, Steve Vai and Dave Bainbridge is one of my favorite guitar players. For years I have loved Brian's unique guitar tones. I have tried many times on my own to reproduce his guitar sound to very mixed results. The Red Special faithfully reproduces Brian's tones from songs like 'Keep Yourself Alive', 'Tie Your Mother Down', 'We Will Rock You', 'We Are The Chanpions', 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love', (a cool model, however this is one song that I would not have chosen). The Queen song that has endlessly fascinated me for years has been 'Brighton Rock' and Brian's metallic tone and use of delay on the song. One of the models on the Red Special pedal replicates that sound fantastically. It was one of the first models that I tried when I got the pedal home. Along with the various models there are controls to adjust the gain, treble, bass, midrange, phaser amount and level as well as delay amount and level. Overall this is one of the best pieces of gear that I have every purchased, I was not dissappointed. I must say that the pedal actually far exceeded my expectations. The only issue that I have is the choice of song models. I would love to have seen models based off of Brian's tone on songs like 'Sweet Lady', 'One Vision', 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives', 'Hitman', 'Another One Bites The Dust' and some of the sounds from his solo cds. That aside this is a great buy. If you are a Brian May fan this pedal is a must.

I was very nervous about this pedal. I have spent many years (and money) trying and get as close to Brian May's tone only to be disappointed time after time. And of course if you are mad enough to end up with at least 3 AC30's no one will let you plug in because output decibels versus venue size. So you either buy a very good attenuator or THIS PEDAL.
Seriously speaking this pedal has a very good studio sound; in that you can play quite convincing Queen tones from it. It has an exceptional Deacy tone that it far better than Vox's Deacy amp I think (I own one - has a poor treble booster version). Plus the delay setup works very well, just roll back off the pedal if your repeats end up louder than the leading attack. SO yes overall very very good. And fun.
I gave a four star rating as I currently use a 93 Guild BM Pro with Adeson pickups, a Pete Cornish Treble Booster and three AC30's. Even with these I am still not quite there. There is of course the Foxx Phaser and the Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble. Again this pedal gives this tone. So for the money is tremendous value.
However tone wise it is limited. The tones have been set up to replicate the song tones that ended on the Master recordings. In the studio the Bohemian Rhapsody solo was recorded with the microphones in the corner of the room and not against the amp so therefore effects the tone. This is the same for the other tones. So if you want just a standard AC30 plus treble booster sound then forget it. Everything sounds slightly modified and in some instances muffled unless you're playing the same style suited for the tone.
Personally I think this is a very good pedal, well worth the money. Tone wise it does have limits plus the manual has errors for those with Red Special pickup switches. You need to look up the internet for the correct settings.
